As the saying goes, "can't live with it, can't live without it". I appreciate all our latest technological devices. I think for the most part there's much one can gain. However, I personally could probably do without a great deal of it. I own and use a desktop at home. I've seriously contemplated purchasing a laptop and all the many trappings that accompany, but in all practicality, I really don't need one. I own and use a cell phone--one with a camera and Internet access and games but I seldom if ever use any of its more glorified features. I prefer to call rather than text. IM just isn't happening for me! I find my cell phone very convenient but I don't see the need to have it or its evil appendage, the Bluetooth, glued to my ear. Come to think of it, I like it best when its in the 'off' mode. Furthermore, I don't own a digital camera but I do know how to operate one should the need arise. IPODs and MP3's are fairly recent additions to my sphere of techonolgy. I know how they work and I love music but still, I have no desire to own one. If ever the need arises, I'll consult my children.
So you see, I'm all for gaining the know how but I don't want to be consumed by all things technological out there. This is what makes this journey so exciting. I'll have the opportunity to explore and experience things like Flickr, taking from it what I want and that which doesn't interest me I can set aside, but at least, I would've been formally introduced.
